Women's Colleges and Ex-Women

neutrois:

Interesting article. Actually the article is kinda bla (and try not to mind the offensive title, I know), but the questions it poses are worth discussing.

  • Who should be allowed at “women only” colleges? (Women? Heterosexual women? Lesbian women? FTMs? MTFs? pre/post-transition FTM/MTFs?Genderqueers?) Why or why not?
  • Would you, as a trans* identified individual, consider applying to a “women only” college? Why or why not?
  • Why have “women only” colleges in the first place?
  • Why not have “men only” colleges (they exist, but are far more sparse)?

I look forward to the colorful discussion that will surely ensue.

Some really great questions that need to be addressed. If you are interested in learning more about how a female to male transition might work at a “women’s college” check out the documentary TransGeneration which documents this, as well as other trans experiences in college.

P.S.

Oberlin College’s Multicultural Resource Center is showing TransGeneration every Thursday at 7 PM in King 306. This Thursday (October 6) will be Part 4/8. Check it out!
